**Welcome to Algebra 2!**Algebra 2 is an upper‐level math offered at McNeil High School. The concepts in this class

__build upon those____learned in both Algebra I and Geometry__. The curriculum, especially in the first six weeks, is taught at a much faster pace than in previous math courses. It is important for students to understand that memorizing formulas will not replace__understanding the concepts__of Algebra II. Since classes on a block schedule meet at most 2 or 3 times a week,__success depends on a high____degree of self____‐____discipline__. Please take a few minutes to look at this syllabus which has been provided for this course.**Algebra 2 Homework:****It is each student’s responsibility to keep up with the work, even when absent or involved in****a school****‐****related activity.**Homework can be accessed online by visiting the McNeil Algebra 2 website, mavalgebra2.weebly.com. You may print the assignment off the website and complete the assigned problems on the worksheet. You can also access the worksheet on your device (smart phone, tablet, computer, etc.) and complete the work on notebook paper. Either option will earn you full credit for assignments completed and turned in on time.**Algebra 2 Supplies:**

- 1” 3-ring binder
- notebook paper
- pencils
- 4 AAA batteries
- TI-83/84 Calculator*

**Algebra 2 Grading Policy:**

Six weeks grades will be determined based on the following categories:

- Tests – 50% (Test 1 – 20%, Test 2 – 30%)
- Quizzes – 25%
- Homework – 25%

**Algebra 2 Late Work Policy:**Homework will be assigned every class day except for test days, and is due the next class period. Homework will be accepted

__up until the test day__for a maximum possible score of a 70. Late homework will NOT be accepted (for credit) after the test for that unit has been taken.**Algebra 2 Retesting Policy:**- Failing quiz grades will be replaced with up to a 70
*if*the student gets a passing grade on the first assessment of the unit test covering the same material. - The second test of each six weeks will act as a retest for the first, as it will include material from both units. The second test will be a spiraled exam covering material from the entire six weeks.
- Students will be allowed to retake the 2nd test of each six weeks. However, the student must do the following in order to be eligible to retest:
- Complete the review with ALL WORK SHOWN
- Complete unit homework
- Attend at least 1 tutorial session (to review first test attempt)

- Retest
__MUST__be completed no later than 5 school days after the original test grade is entered on home access.
